North Brunswick High School Assistant Football Coach

I have coached high school football for 17 years and during that time I have used a variety of strength and conditioning programs in an attempt to give my athletes a competitive advantage. My son is a football player and wrestler and he recently started training at Port City Sports Performance. The results have been fantastic! He is stronger, faster, and more flexible than ever.

I am from Pittsburgh, PA. I started playing football when I was a little kid because it was one of the biggest sports in my neighborhood. I weightlifted starting my freshman year, for about 1hr. on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays. I really didn't do any training besides going to camp before school started. However, I wanted to get stronger and faster, and I felt like Coach Pence knew what he was talking about when I took weightlifting class so I decided to lift the way he was teaching the class. Coach Pence made me stronger and taught me that it was my mind that is holding me back. I became a better football player as a result of his training. I am even going to college to play. Yes, this training will affect my career. I had a shoulder injury, and I was taught how to do shoulder workouts to get it stronger. I felt like it was a good change for me. I became a 2 year All-Conference player, 2 year All-District player, Junior Year All-State second team, then Senior Year All-State first team.

Summer Marie Cook

Wow, let's see. Almost two years ago I tore my ACL practicing for powder puff football. Dr. Sutton did my surgery in March of 2008 to reconstruct my left ACL. I came back from that surgery really strong and put together a solid summer golf season, but by August my knee was really hurting. I ended up having several articular cartilage defects on the inside of my knee. In October of 2008 I had a micro fracture on the medial portion of my knee. That landed me on crutches for 6 weeks and I ended up having MAJOR atrophy in my left leg. I enrolled in Coach Pence's class and was making huge progress when I lost the feeling in my right hand and found out I needed to have ulnar nerve transposed to the front side of my arm. I wasn't allowed to lift anything heavier than a coke can from the time of surgery, 04/09 till 06/09. I hooked up with Coach Pence at Port City Sports Performance for the summer, and got into shape and performed at the best level of golf I have in a while.

Ryan LaGrange

3x First Team All-conference
2010 First Team All-State
2010 StarNews All-Area Player of the Year
2010 Laney High School: 4A Baseball Sate Champions

Gains:

Bench   +30 lbs.
Deadlift   +70 lbs.
Hex Deadlift   +95 lbs.
Squat   +70 lbs.

"Currently I am a Freshman playing baseball at UNCW.  During my senior year at Laney, I was looking to take advantage of the time before the baseball season by getting in peak physical condition.  Having been lifting in the weight room for about five years and making slow and gradual improvements, I thought that huge strength and speed gains were not possible for me in a short period of time.  However, at the start of tryouts, five months after I started training at PCSP, I was by far the strongest I have ever been and was already in mid-season shape.  My number one goal in training has always been injury prevention; size and strength doesn't matter if you're on the sideline due to injury.  This is also the number one goal with the trainers at PCSP.  Whether it's lifting in the weight room or working on speed and agility, proper form is always the first thing taught.  Also, the stronger you are, the less likely you are to get injured.  Another thing about PCSP is that a lot of time goes into designing the workouts.  Every workout is specifically tailored to your sport or personal goals, and the knowledge that Coach Pence and Coach Schmitter have cannot be matched.  With the intense atmosphere and motivational training, I highly recommend PCSP for any athlete who wants to gain a serious edge over the competition, or for who anyone who wants to be in their peak physical shape."

Ryan Hammey Drafted in the 31st Round by Chicago White Sox Currently Playing for Great Falls Voyagers

after being drafted, Ryan came to PCSP with certain goals he needed to obtain before he went to preseason training camp for the great fall voyagers Professional Baseball Team;

1. Get stronger,

2. Gain a minimum of 15 pounds, and

3. Become more explosive.

In 8 weeks, ryan hammey went from 191 pounds to 210 pounds at 6'4"

Bench Press increased 40 lbs.

Squat increased 70 lbs.

Dead Lift increased 60 lbs.

Chinup max reps went from 14 to 32 reps

Added 3.5 inches to his box jump making it 52.5 inches (almost 4.5 ft)

Added 3 inches to his broad jump

The amazing thing is that Ryan's jumping ability went up, while he gained almost 20 pounds, which means his power output and explosiveness increased.

Goals Accomplished!

Ryan Hammey- "Port City Sports Performance has helped me tremendously in my goals to gain weight and get stronger. In the 8 weeks before spring training, they put 20 lbs on me and I am stronger than ever! I've been lifting for 8 years or so, and thought it wasn't possible to put anymore weight on at my height or age, but pcsp did it, and did it under time restraints! The staff is great and the trainers are very knowledgeable and supportive of you and your goals. I can't wait to get back next off season!"

My daughter has been training with PCSP for over two years.  I have witnessed her strength, speed, agility and confidence level explode over this time.  In 2009, after training with pcsp for one year, she was named 1st team all-state. She recently signed to play D-I softball with this having been her dream.

I honestly believe that had it not been for her training at PCSP, she would not have been able to attain her goal.

I must add that I have worked with athletes for close to thirty years.  This is the best training you will find.

Hannah McCleod Collegiate Softball Player

08/15/2009

My freshmen year of college softball I tore my labrum. In November of 2008 I had labrum repair surgery, causing me to miss my first season of college softball. I was upset and it wasn't hard to see, from November to May I didn't do much of anything but sleep, eat, do homework, and attend class. When I got home from school in May, I visited my high school weight training coach, who said that my legs had major atrophy. He told me not to worry, through strength and conditioning it would come back in a few weeks. This was the beginning of my inspiration, I knew then that there was still some hope, and that it was not the end of softball for me. I knew then that I was going to have to work as hard as I could to get back to where I was when I left high school. Coach Pence had me come to his gym, Port City Sports Performance, so that he could help me get back into game mode. At first I couldn't believe how weak I had become, but after a few weeks I was getting back to where I had started off. I was feeling better and becoming more and more ready to throw. It began to get easier to throw the ball overhand and to even pitch some. I still had some swelling but every time I would throw it would get better, and I was able to throw longer and harder. Coach pence and Coach Schmitter gave me the motivation, the confidence, and the strength that I needed to get back into the game. I transferred to Peace College in Raleigh North Carolina and will be playing in the fall and spring season thanks to Port City Sports Performance.

I would like to say thanks to all of you at Port City Sports Performance for providing an environment where our son Noah has been able to gain self confidence through your Strength and Conditioning class at such an affordable price. He looks forward to going so much he never lets me forget which night's the classes are. Jake and Schmitter are able keep the guys motivated without pushing them to the point of giving up. They are able to relate to all age groups and break down the complicated mechanics of sports conditioning on a level that they can easily understand and implement. If you can find someone that loves wrestling more than Dan I would give you a hundred bucks!! Well maybe not... but you would be hard pressed to find somebody that is as knowledgeable about the sport of Wrestling and knows how to keep each individual wrestler challenged and constantly improving their skills on the mat.

Best Bat Award

“I started working out with Coach Schmitter at PCSP the summer of 2009. He told me if I would put the work in that he would help me achieve my goals. Schmitter always encouraged me to work harder for better results. The first two years that I played softball for Laney, I was not in the batting line up. After one year with Schmitter not only am I in the batting line up, I won the best bat award for having the highest batting average on the team. Without PCSP and Coach Schmitter, I would not have achieved the accolades that I earned this year. I truly appreciate all of his efforts and patience with me and look forward to him helping me achieve my ultimate goal which is to play collegiate softball.”
